Poker Poker Poker!

I am so inspired from reading all your blogs I wanted to start my own. For some of you its certainly been a rollercoaster ride. Lucky I like rollercoaster's!

My main sites are Cake and Everest. I also play at Party and Full Tilt. I have learnt a lot from reading and chatting with others and although I am only new, I am lucky enough to have learnt a lot from "old skool" players. My dad and his friends were the Kings of NZ pub poker in the 70s and early 80s.

Another passion of mine is playing guitar, I've been playing for over 20 years, blues, rock, acoustic and trained in classical for 3 years. I've played in bands, put on performances, played at Weddings, Restaurants and a taught music at the local Guitar Shop. Many people have asked me how have I stayed so passionate for so long? I had to think long and hard for the reason and I realised something very important. Something I would like to share with you all. "You have got to enjoy the journey!" If you do, you will continue on with the journey. Its not about the destination, there is no destination! After 20+ years playing the guitar I still consider myself a student of the guitar. There is always something to learn. Today, poker is my new passion, so let the journey begin!

I love that quote, I think I lose that concept a bunch, so I really appreciate you posting that! Good luck with your journey! It is guaranteed to be a roller coaster! Love the guitar stuff too! I suck at it, but I love to play a little Jack Johnson or something if a session has got me down. It's a really good hobby to balance poker with imo. Just make sure you're practicing good bank roll management and always improving and you'll climb quickly!

good luck,
Chad

Thanks Chad,

Good that you liked my quote. Its so true, more importantly you got to experience the bad as well as the good to become better at what you love doing. I dedicated 25+ hours a week practicing guitar. With work, being a student and teaching taking up most of my week the only time I could utilise was to cut into sleep time, I played guitar more than I slept. Lol, the things we do. but thats what it was all about, experiencing the journey and I loved it.

After 18 years of playing blues, rock, electric and acoustic guitar I decided to study Spanish Classical Guitar (All my guitar mates thought I was going mad!) My teacher was a retired Spanish Classical guitarist, trained in Milian, toured Europe and retired in Brisbane Australia a few suburbs from me. It was like winning Lotto! He could play like the great god himself - Andre Segovia! I remember one lesson he said to me (with his Spanish accent) " your left hand technique is beautiful, magnificent actually! Wow, that blew me away! "How's my right hand technique" I asked. "Your right hand technique is shit!" Hahahahah......(both feet firmly on the ground. A lesson worth my learning.)

I use to say to my students "Its easy to play the guitar, its hard to play it well." (I think there's a similar saying in poker)

Everything I have learnt from playing the guitar I now apply to Poker, the dedication, commitment, experiencing the ups and downs, always learning. Even simple things like, If you feel like shit, you'll play like shit! :happy3: Its all part of the journey, its all part of what it takes to be better at what you love doing.

See you at the tables......

Ok Chad, just had a read of your blog, I take that back! I hope I don't see you at the tables, your freakishly awesome!

I have sooooo much to learn....so very exciting!

Any words of wisdom, muchly appreciated. (1st study, BANKROLL MANAGEMENT 101)

I think you probably meant words of wisdom from Doyles which are, if i'm not mistaking, "You only need 10 minutes to learn poker but a lifetime to master it.

BTW, i'm not a musician myself, but i think you will like this link to Tony deCaprio vid lessons. He is a real master at guitar and one of my best friend either, which is quite strange... :D
I also post the link to his site, if you ever interested. --> http://www.tonydecaprio.com/
He played for Elvis when he was 18 year old (in Vegas) as guitar leader and also gave lessons to Al diMeola when younger.
Enjoy the journey

All last week I didn't make any second round games, didn't win any tickets or money? I lost my mojo! And its usually constant across the different sites and numerous games I play. (so I cant blame the site or bad beats) Its me?!

But then last night I came 6th out of a giant field of 7335 and at the same time I came 3rd out of 194ppl......what the hells going on. I don't think I've done anything different? :dazed: :dazed:
