I definitely feel like I have a lot more control over things live. Even though when our aces get beat we would all swear up and down that the sites were rigged, the reality is that no one is probably taking the time to steal my small to average bankroll when they could focus on much bigger people if they could cheat.
Online poker site use a seed number for the random number generator to keep things supposedly random. Now I am not going to say the poker sites try and cheat any one player, BUT... poker sites have and will do this.
Run and analyze seed numbers to find the seed numbers that produce the greatest number of "good" hands dealt. This way poker sites will be guarenteed larger pots and therefore larger rakes. This isnt cheating per say because the poker site doesnt care who gets what hand when... just as long as the random number generator spits out more 'power' hands in a set amount of hands compared with other seed numbers.
Poker sites goto great lengths telling players how their RNG(random number generator) is secure and random and how they are monitored to ensure the RNG is working. But they rarely if ever speak of their seed number or how they generate said seed number.
In conclusion, your correct, nobody is trying to take your small/average bankroll. But by using random number streams that generate more high hands(and therefore more bad beats/suckouts) the poker sites generate far more rake... and i think everyone knows poker sites make all their money on rake.
I could go on and on about this lol
