I know that 50-30-20 is standard for 3 places, but I never have liked it. The difference from 4th place to 3rd is 20, but the difference from 3rd place to 2nd is only 10. I think as you move up spots the incremental payouts should at least stay the same, or increase. For that reason I'd like something like 55-30-15, 60-30-10, 65-25-10, etc. Standard for 4 places is 40-30-20-10, which I don't have a problem with.

I'm glad I got that off my chest.... :)

Maybe you should try the beginners SnG at Bodog.
For a 10-handed table at $8.80 top 5 are paid like this:
24-20-16-12-8
That's a way to build a BR, with not much risk.

The double up sngs at cake are nice also. All you need to do is come in the top 50% and you double your buy in.

Thanks for your responses.

I'm not a fan of a $24-$20-$16-$12-$8 payout - pretty much same reason. The difference between 6th and 5th (i.e. $8) is greater than the difference between 5th and 4th, or any other 2 places (i.e. $4). I contend that as you move up the ladder the incremental payouts should at least stay the same, or preferably increase.

I've never played on Cake, but it'll probably be the next site I try out. The double up tourney sounds ok - I'm assuming that the game is over when the 6th place player busts out? In a regular sng you'd probably have fair chance of finishing in the top 5 if you just folded everything from the start and just watched people bust each other out. Especially if a bully was at the table, just let him do all the work for you, or get busted out himself :) Finishing 5th in an $8.80 and getting paid $16 beats getting paid $8 and losing 80 cents in the bargain in the scenario above, or getting nothing in a sng that only pays 3.

its a better challenge if the top 3 places pay out it takes way more skill and patience to land in the top three.

it seems like 95% of the time i end running into a brick wall and get 4th but u learn and improve buy playing single table tournys.

I highly doubt that.

double ups are the best way to get $. I dont like 50 30 20 either. I dont play many SnGs, unless its a double or a Matrix at FTP for the hell of it (its a fun novelty thing).
